Woodsmoke Posted November 24 Posted November 24 A few folks have wondered at the mystery of the shoreside door, but I haven't seen anyone talking about the script on it. I decided that I must decipher it. It's not finished, but I'll show my work. First, the passages I've found (with the help of a friend, thanks Shack). Images can be found at the link below. The door, two looks at the curling vine, and a set of four together. These are the only three I've seen so far, and collectively they hold ten or eleven words, depending on how it's meant to be read. After that are my notes. I assigned each symbol found to an arbitrary letter of the alphabet. It's unclear if the dot on some shapes indicates a whole new letter, but I'm operating under that assumption for now. There aren't many 7-letter words in the English language that contain the same second, third and seventh letter, while none of the others repeat. After an exhaustive search, I've written all eligible ones I found there. Considering the frequency of the "H" symbol, it seems likely to be E, but there's also a case for it being S. I've tallied the frequency of each to the right of the placeholder alphabet. I'm aware that these words could be wholly new, not defined English terms, or names. There's not much I can do about that for now. Of the known possibilities, I plotted out what would be known of the first word if the second were so and so. That includes which three letters cannot be part of that word. Later, I noticed that HICJ appears as its own word, as well as in the middle of EHHICJH. That's immensely helpful. And apart from other observations written in the notebook, that's as far as I've got. I need more samples. If you see more passages that aren't shown here, can you please share them below? https://www.reddit.com/r/SoulFrame/s/yulaTLlUMo 1
Keysharpe Posted November 24 Posted November 24 This is quite the undertaking; I'm impressed you're tackling it head on, and you've even got your own dedicated journal too, that's awesome! However, do prepare yourself for the possibility that the Reddit user Primeval_Revenant is right, you may be dealing with a phonetic language unlike the SoulGlyphs we've seen on the location names. An even worse scenario is the symbols are just random scribbles meant to fill the space. The latter doesn't sound likely as Digital Extremes usually has good attention to detail and doesn't just make up false languages. I'm sure there's a translation for it somewhere, though we may not see one for a while. Regardless, this is a pretty cool project you're working on. Please keep us posted if you make progress towards translating those markings. I look forward to knowing what tale those symbols tell. 1
Woodsmoke Posted November 24 Author Posted November 24 Like I'd said there, I was aware of the possibility going in. Another game I've played had that as a mechanic, though I'll not name which due to spoilers. If it is phonetic, I wouldn't be able to make any headway yet, so I choose to direct my energy towards this possibility for now. As more comes out, maybe that'll become possible to rule out or confirm.
